Saudi arabia: Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the United Nations' efforts to combat terrorism, describing terrorism as a direct threat to international peace and security.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the statement was delivered by Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, during an ambassador-level meeting held under the UN80 initiative. The meeting aimed to review the capacities of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre. Dr. Alwasil emphasized the Kingdom's ongoing support since 2011 as a founding donor and chair of the advisory board.
Within the framework of the UN80 initiative, the Kingdom highlighted the importance of sustaining the capacities of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism and its center, advocating for enhanced capabilities through sustainable resources. The statement also addressed the need to tackle emerging threats, focusing on the misuse of artificial intelligence and digital platforms by terrorist groups for recruitment, financing, and propaganda.
Saudi Arabia expressed concern over terrorism in Africa, identifying it as the region most affected. The Kingdom called for strengthened international partnerships and a coordinated response that respects national priorities. It condemned recent terrorist attacks in the Republic of Mali, including those in the capital, Bamako.
