Saudi Arabia Participates in World Environment Day Events

Geneva, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has participated in an international event organized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Geneva under the theme "Our Earth - Our Future" in celebration of the World Environment Day. In the opening speech, the Kingdom's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations Mohanad Al-Basrawi expressed his gratitude to UNEP for selecting the Kingdom as the host country for the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in December. He noted that the event would provide the Kingdom with an opportunity to bring about a significant shift during the discussions of this important convention and to enhance international efforts to reduce land degradation and the impacts of drought. Al-Basrawi stressed the Kingdom's commitment to environmental protection and its efforts to promote international cooperation to address environmental challenges, calling for collabora tion in crafting a new message to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and caring for the environment. The meeting was attended by senior officials from UNEP, the World Economic Forum, the International Labor Organization, the International Organization for Migration, the UNCCD, and the Human Rights Commission.
