Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Transport General Authority (TGA), has signed a cooperation agreement with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to launch two pioneering international projects. The agreement signifies an ongoing commitment by Saudi Arabia to international maritime initiatives that enhance environmental and human sustainability within the sector.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the agreement was signed by the Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the IMO Eng. Kamal Al-Junaidi and IMO Technical Cooperation and Implementation Division Director Dr. Jose Matheickal. The collaboration focuses on two key projects: GloNoise and NextWave Seafarers. GloNoise aims to reduce underwater noise pollution, minimizing its environmental impact and protecting marine ecosystems. On the other hand, NextWave Seafarers addresses the shortage of qualified maritime personnel by training 20 male and female trainees from developing countries, preparing them for careers in the industry while supporting women's empowerment and promoting equal opportunities.
This partnership illustrates Saudi Arabia's leadership in the maritime transport industry and its dedication to global environmental sustainability and human capital development. It aligns with the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and reinforces Saudi Arabia's active role in the international maritime arena.
