Saudi Arabia Hosts WWC Board to Discuss Key Challenges Facing Water

Riyadh: Riyadh hosted the World Water Council (WWC) 89th board of governors meeting to discuss the most pressing issues and challenges facing the water sector worldwide. Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture for Water Abdulaziz AlShaibani attended the meeting, alongside WWC President Loc Fauchon and several members from the council.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the event coincided with the first preparatory meeting for the 11th World Water Forum, scheduled to be held in Riyadh in 2027. The forum seeks to identify urgent global priorities related to the water issues. Discussions will take place over the next three years, culminating in the announcement of outcomes at the forum.

During the meeting, AlShaibani highlighted the significant developments in the Kingdom's water sector, whose progress encompasses a series of structural reforms aligned with the National Water Strategy, designed to achieve the objectives of Vision 2030 as well as the Water Law and various pertinent initiatives.

AlShaibani emphasized the importance of Saudi cooperation at all levels to enhance water services globally, emphasizing that existing projects and initiatives have improved water management and planning worldwide. He also spotlighted the ambitious strategic goals and large-scale water projects set to be launched in the near future with the aim of elevating and prospering the sector.
