Makkah: Neighborhood football courts in Makkah are gaining popularity as a key driver of community sports, drawing youth to play football in an organized, competitive environment that supports talent discovery and fosters a sports culture. According to Saudi Press Agency, the expansion of public and private sports courts across Makkah's neighborhoods has boosted sports activity, with modern facilities hosting tournaments and leagues year-round. The Holy Makkah Municipality has developed more than 118 sports courts of varying sizes across neighborhoods and public parks, including football, volleyball, and tennis courts, as well as walking paths. Neighborhood leagues have evolved from amateur competitions into organized tournaments with technical regulations, referees, and match scheduling, utilizing digital platforms to manage competitions and announce results. Sports observers consider neighborhood courts an important talent discovery channel, alongside the growing number of specialized sports academies in Makkah. They note that this integration has created a comprehensive environment for talent development while strengthening social ties and instilling discipline and teamwork values among youth.
