Jeddah: The Roads General Authority (RGA) is showcasing its latest technologies designed to facilitate the movement of pilgrims at the fifth edition of the Hajj Conference and Exhibition, held from November 9 to 12 in Jeddah.
According to Saudi Press Agency, among the advanced systems presented was flexible asphalt recycling technology, which enables on-site recycling of the entire asphalt layer along with the sublayer beneath it. This method reduces costs by 40% to 70% compared to conventional techniques and allows same-day traffic resumption, minimizing disruptions and significantly cutting carbon emissions.
The RGA is also demonstrating its state-of-the-art road surveying and assessment fleet, which integrates AI and includes advanced tools such as surface damage scanners and skid resistance and deflection gauges. These technologies provide accurate, real-time monitoring of road conditions, improving maintenance efficiency and supporting data-driven decision-making.
Additionally, the authority employs a ground paint thickness gauge, the first of its kind in the Middle East, equipped with a high-resolution camera and GPS. Capable of operating at speeds of up to 80 km/h, it measures paint reflectivity and thickness, providing comprehensive data that enhances maintenance precision and reduces operational costs.
Drone technology is also utilized to inspect roads, bridges, and difficult-to-access areas. Drones support thermal scanning and ensure road cleanliness with efficiency and accuracy.
Through these initiatives, the RGA continues to expand its adoption of cutting-edge technologies to advance its strategic objectives centered on safety, quality, and traffic efficiency. These efforts strengthen the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub and support the realization of Saudi Vision 2030 by enhancing the user experience and ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency across the national road network.
