General

Saudi arabia: Saudi Arabia's road network is undergoing a major transformation, strengthening its position among the world's most advanced networks and achieving a leading ranking in the road connectivity index.

According to Saudi Press Agency, this progress is supported by a state-of-the-art fleet of surveying and assessment equipment, deployed by the Roads General Authority and recognized as the largest of its kind worldwide, to enhance road readiness and safety in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 goals to accommodate up to 30 million pilgrims by 2030.

The fleet includes advanced systems for surface damage detection, pavement thickness analysis, alignment monitoring, and skid resistance testing. Surface assessment units equipped with high-resolution cameras and laser sensors can detect cracks and rutting with precision up to 0.05 mm, enabling accurate analysis and rapid maintenance decisions.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety and efficiency, aiming to reduce fatalities to fewer than five per 100,000 people while aligning standards with the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP). Its initiatives also optimize traffic flow during the 1447 AH Hajj season, ensuring safe and seamless mobility for pilgrims and reinforcing the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub.
