Roads Authority Launches Initiatives to Strengthen Road Regulations

General

Riyadh: The Roads General Authority (RGA) announced its achievements, noting that 2025 marked a significant leap in the Kingdom's roads sector through enhanced safety and quality standards, infrastructure development, and partnerships with the private sector.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the initiatives and projects implemented achieved unprecedented results in enhancing safety levels, in collaboration with members of the Ministerial Committee for Traffic Safety. These efforts resulted in an approximately 60% reduction in road traffic fatalities, while the proportion of roads meeting the highest safety standards reached 80%, according to International Road Assessment Program (iRAP) indicators.

In the field of sustainability, the RGA achieved pioneering milestones, including the construction of the world's first road using demolition waste in its asphalt mix, in collaboration with Al-Ahsa Municipality and the National Waste Management Center (Mawan).

Sustainability efforts also included recycling waste tires to construct flexible, rubberized roads for pilgrims, such as a 16,000-square-meter stretch from Namira Mosque to the Al-Mashaaer Train Station in Arafat, which was paved with this asphalt, ensuring a safe experience for pedestrians and older people.

In the field of innovation, RGA introduced, for the first time, a bullet-compacted concrete layer for truck lanes, providing an innovative solution to meet the demands of heavy traffic on logistics routes.
