Riyadh: Riyadh Region Municipality, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, has approved a new set of regulations for approving urban master plans in the capital. This strategic move mandates engineering offices and real estate developers to complete all infrastructure and public domain elements before commencing construction work. This reflects a fundamental shift in urban planning methodology, solidifying the foundations of sustainability and quality of life in the city.
According to Saudi Press Agency, these new requirements mandate the completion of essential infrastructure, including paving, asphalt work, street lighting, and the extension of water, sewage, electricity, and telephone networks. They also encompass the installation of storm drainage networks, the creation of parks and landscaped areas, and the provision of public domain elements. This encompasses features such as open spaces, street name signs, road markings, and urban furniture, all designed to enhance public areas in accordance with the municipality's approved technical guidelines.
This approach aligns with Riyadh Region Municipality's efforts to foster proactive urban development and avoid recurring challenges faced by previous models. These challenges primarily included repeated street excavation after construction, delays in service delivery, and incomplete urban environment elements in the initial stages of development.
