Riyadh: Yesterday marked the virtual launch of the 61st World Planning Council, organized by the Riyadh Region Municipality in collaboration with the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP). The event featured experts and urban planners preparing for the ISOCARP World Planning Congress in Riyadh, December 2025.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this launch serves as a precursor to the congress, aimed at unifying global efforts and sharing visions for the future of cities. The municipality is leading initiatives in sustainability, quality of life, and urban development, positioning itself as a key partner in shaping future cities and aligning local goals with global trends.
The ISOCARP World Planning Congress, scheduled for December 1 to 4, coincides with ISOCARP's 75th anniversary. It will discuss innovative research and practices for resilient urban futures, featuring participants from academia, planning, and policy.
Five main themes will be addressed: sustainable urban growth amidst crises, urban economy and AI, climate adaptation for dynamic cities, culture and identity in urban transformation, and agile city governance.
