Qatar urged Thursday all parties in Niger to avoid escalation, give priority to the voice of wisdom, and pursue dialogue to overcome the crisis in Niger.
In a statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it is following with great concern the current developments in Niger, underlining Qatar’s keenness to restore security and stability in Niger and hope to preserve constitutional institutions and the rule of law in order to achieve the aspirations of the Nigerien people for development and prosperity.
Earlier, the Nigerien presidency announced that security guards inside the presidential palace have detained Niger’s President Mohammad Bazoum and his family.
Bazoum was elected in 2021 to be the first Arab president of Niger, which is considered the world’s most revolutionary country in its contemporary history, as it recorded four coups since its independence from France in 1960, in addition to many failed coup attempts.
