Peregrine Falcon Migration Season Begins in Northern Borders

Riyadh:Northern Borders: October marks the start of the annual fall migration of the Peregrine falcon, signaling the revival of a traditional trapping season cherished by falconers and trappers across the region.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Al-Hammad Desert is a favored location for trappers due to its position along migratory flight paths. Falconry enthusiast Ahmed Al-Banaqi highlighted that preparations begin early with the setup of camps and the readiness of specialized nets and gear. Trappers are active during two key periods each dayfrom dawn to morning and shortly before sunsetutilizing their patience, tracking skills, and knowledge of migratory routes.

To preserve and support this cultural heritage, the National Center for Falcons organizes a falcon auction that coincides with the trapping season. This event attracts birds captured nationwide and offers professional support services, enabling trappers to showcase and sell their falcons in a competitive live auction.
