The Organizing Committee of the fifth edition of the Crown Prince Camel Festival, which is held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has set Thursday, September 7, as the date of the closing ceremony of the annual event.
The closing day of the festival, which is organized by the Saudi Camel Federation at Taif Camel Square with the participation of Arab and international teams, will feature four races on a track of 6 kilometers. Winners of the “Crown Prince Sword” will be crowned during the closing ceremony with a prize pool of SAR 1,750,000 to be distributed among three winners.
A total prize pool of SAR 57 million has been allocated for this year’s festival, which began August 1 with the participation of renowned local, Arab, and international camel owners.
The preliminary stage of the festival featured 350 races from the camel categories of Mafarid, Haqqa, Laqaya, Jatha’a, Thanaya, Heil, and Zamoul. The final 11-day stage of the event is scheduled to kick off on August 28 and will feature 240 races, starting with the Marathon race, and for the first time in the festival’s history, the international women marathon.
The festival has generated economic revenue through the various accompanying events that sought to enhance the Kingdom’s cultural heritage with a focus on the camel culture as a basic component of the Saudi, Arab, and Islamic heritage.
