Makkah: A timely and coordinated response within Saudi Arabia's modern healthcare system, one of the six integrated care systems in the national model, played a decisive role in saving the life of an Omani pilgrim who suffered a severe heart attack yesterday. Thanks to rapid intervention, he is now recovering steadily and will be able to resume his Hajj rituals under continued medical oversight through an advanced smartwatch monitoring system.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the pilgrim was treated at the Cardiac Center at King Abdullah Medical City, where a specialized team immediately performed an emergency cardiac catheterization procedure, known as a Primary PCI. The operation involved reopening the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and placing a drug-eluting stent to restore blood flow. The procedure was completed without complications.
The pilgrim is currently under close observation in the cardiac care unit, with vital signs showing complete stability and no lingering cardiac symptoms. As part of the Kingdom's ongoing digital transformation in healthcare, his condition will continue to be monitored remotely after hospital discharge using a medical smartwatch provided by the Virtual Health Center. This technology enables secure and continuous tracking of vital indicators such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature, while ensuring full patient privacy.
