Oman’s Foreign Minister Bader Al-Busaidi on Monday heaped praise on Russia for its stance towards the “Palestinian cause,” saying the matter continues to be the region’s perennial concern.
“There is a strategic need to resolve the Palestinian issue and resolve one of the region’s most enduring conflicts,” the Omani top diplomat told strategic ministerial-level talks bringing together Gulf Arab states and Russia. Oman is heading the GCC delegation to the talks.
The minister lamented the continued “Israeli aggressions” against the Palestinian people, saying the Riyadh-based bloc supports a two-state solution to the conflict based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state.
On the Russia-Ukraine war, he said the conflict has morphed into a global concern over international peace and security, underlining the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in line with UN principles and conventions.
He went on mention a number of regional conflicts, particularly in Sudan and Yemen, hoping that the ongoing unrest in both countries would subside to pave the way for the restoration of peace and stability.
The talks, noted Al-Busaidi, come at a time where the world is gripped by a myriad of pressing matters, citing the spread of armed conflicts, climate change and “political instability” as chief among those issues.
