Beirut: The blast on August 4, 2020, was one of the world's largest non-nuclear explosions, devastating parts of the Lebanese capital, killing more than 220 people, and injuring over 6,500. Five years after the catastrophic explosion, accountability remains absent, as no one has been held responsible for the tragedy.
According to France24.com, Stephanie Khouri, a political journalist at L'Orient-Le Jour, expressed the frustration and disbelief felt by many in Lebanon. "It's quite surreal and very hard to accept for people here five years later, that we are almost back to square one," she stated in a conversation with FRANCE 24's Stuart Norval. The lack of accountability continues to weigh heavily on the community, leaving many questions unanswered.
