Riyadh: King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Natural Reserve (KSRNR) is dedicated to preserving unique natural habitats, transforming into a haven for wildlife, a crucial stopover for migratory birds each year, and a natural sanctuary with its balanced environment and diverse landscapes.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the reserve is home to over 290 species of migratory birds, more than 550 types of wild and grazing plants, and over 350 species of various mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. It is marking International Day for Biological Diversity, observed annually on May 22. The reserve has seen the resettlement of more than 1,245 wild animals and has recorded over 120 births among its wildlife.
The King Salman Royal Reserve Development Authority highlighted its hosting of large populations of diverse animal and plant species through its social-media platforms. These ongoing efforts reinforce the reserve as an ideal and vibrant ecosystem rich in biodiversity. The authority actively fosters strategic partnerships within the environmental sector of Saudi Arabia, collaborating with public and private entities as well as nonprofit organizations to launch impactful digital awareness campaigns.
Since its inception, the authority has focused on raising environmental awareness within the local community to bolster its conservation efforts. It aims to enhance natural habitats, minimize both natural and human threats, and achieve its ambitious strategic goals. Spanning a total area of 130,700 square kilometers, the reserve holds a vital place as the largest in the Middle East.
