Austin: Twenty-two male and female students from the Department of Nuclear Engineering at King Abdulaziz University are participating in an international academic and training program organized by the University of Texas at Austin in the United States. The program, which runs through July 12, is part of efforts to develop national capabilities in nuclear energy.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the program is a result of an agreement made between King Abdulaziz University and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE) to prepare and qualify national personnel in the nuclear energy sector while developing scientific and research skills. This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 goals to diversify energy sources and promote sustainable development.
The initiative is part of a project implemented by KACARE to activate specialized educational programs that attract and train students in atomic energy. It supports the national direction toward localizing technical knowledge and applying International Atomic Energy Agency standards.
The intensive training program covers eight main areas: nuclear safety and security, radiation protection, nuclear fuel cycle management, emergency preparedness, human resource development, nuclear reactor operation simulation, professional meetings with scientific organizations, and cultural visits that enrich the academic experience of the participants.
