Al-khafs: The King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority announced the launch of a strategic project to rehabilitate vegetation cover within the reserve, targeting the planting of 1 million seedlings by 2030, in partnership with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) based on the comprehensive cooperation agreement signed between the two sides last year.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the project comes in support of the Saudi Green Initiative and aims to protect biodiversity, combat desertification, conserve natural resources, and contribute to improving environmental quality and enhancing environmental sustainability within the reserve. It aligns with national efforts to expand vegetation cover, reduce the impacts of climate change, and achieve the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The project relies on an automated irrigation system managed with high efficiency to ensure rationalized water consumption and reduced environmental impact, in addition to the use of recycled materials in the project's infrastructure, in support of circular economy principles and environmental responsibility.
The plant species to be cultivated include local varieties adapted to the reserve's natural and environmental characteristics, such as talh, wild sidr, athel, and ghaf. The selection supports biodiversity, limits land degradation, and enhances the sustainability of ecosystems.
This project is part of an integrated set of initiatives implemented by the authority to protect the natural environment, activate strategic partnerships with national entities, and boost the reserve's position as a leading national project in nature conservation, clearly supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in environmental sustainability and quality of life.
