Arafat: Kidana Development Company, the primary developer of the holy sites, has introduced a series of high-quality initiatives in Arafat aimed at improving the comfort and experience of pilgrims, particularly through its flagship project, Mitigating the Effects of Heat Stress in the Jabal Al-Rahma area.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the project seeks to create a more moderate climate for pilgrims by reducing ambient temperatures across a vast area of 196,000 square meters, helping to ease the impact of direct sunlight during the performance of Hajj rituals. As part of the initiative, 1,200 square meters of canopies have been installed, supported by 129 misting fans to cool the surrounding environment.
Kidana also implemented extensive shading and cooling enhancements in the courtyards surrounding the Namira Mosque, including the installation of 320 canopies and 350 misting columns. In addition, more than 20,000 trees have been planted across 290,000 square meters to further enrich the spiritual and environmental atmosphere for the pilgrims.
Among the new developments is a pedestrian path cooling project, which covers 60,000 square meters of shaded walkways equipped with misting fans. This initiative aims to protect pilgrims from intense sun exposure as they move between key sites.
Water access points have also undergone significant upgrades, with 2,400 square meters dedicated to the construction of modern water coolers. These have been strategically distributed to ensure easy and equitable access for all pilgrims.
In a further move to enhance comfort, Kidana has established rest areas along the main routes, equipped with seating, misting fans, umbrellas, commercial kiosks, and rubber flooring.
