Iraqi President, Turkish Foreign Minister Discuss Enhancing Bilateral Relations

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid discussed on Wednesday with the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, ways to strengthen relations between the two countries and expand cooperation in economic and trade.

The two sides discussed water crisis in Iraq, as well as environment and energy files, security situation and the importance of preventing security breaches on borders.

In this regard, Rashid stressed the importance of reaching understandings between the two countries on receiving fair and sufficient water share that covers their peoples needs, pointing out that Iraq is beset by an acute water crisis that has dramatically affected the entire general life of Iraqi people due to the declining water flow from Tigris and Euphrates.

Fidan stressed Turkiye’s keenness to find drastic solutions to the water problem, pointing out that Turkish government is following up on this matter to redress water shortage in Iraq.
