Geneva, The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) called today for a ceasefire and political dialogue in Sudan. IFRC Sudan chief Farid Abdulkadir said that the conflict in Sudan has led to the displacement of 8.6 million people; the destruction of the social fabric, daily life, and infrastructure; and lack of food, water, and electricity. UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representative to South Sudan Marie-Helene Verney explained that South Sudan so far has received 635,000 Sudanese people, constituting more than 5% of its population. She called for restoring security and stability in Sudan and securing food and water.
