Indian forces gun down five militants in Jammu and Kashmir

Five foreign militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, according to Indian police.

Kashmir Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar said that five militants were gunned down near the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Press Trust of India reported.

The encounter broke out early Friday in Jumagund area in Kupwara after security forces launched a search operation based on intelligence input, he said, adding that in the ensuing exchange of fire five foreign militants were killed and the search operation is still on.

New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims which Islamabad denies.
