India, Sri Lanka adopt economic partnership document

India and Sri Lanka have endorsed a vision document for economic partnership, and decided to conduct a feasibility study for an oil pipeline and establish a bridge between their countries.

This came during a meeting held between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, India’s government said in a statement Friday.

The vision document aims at enhancing maritime, air, energy and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries, Modi was quoted by the statement as saying.

He expressed his confidence that the vision would help accelerate mutual cooperation in tourism, power, trade, higher education, and skill development, it said.

The two sides decided to start talks on the Economic and Technological Cooperation Agreement soon to open up new possibilities of trade and economic cooperation for both the countries, the statement noted.

The two sides agreed to increase air connectivity to increase the movement of business and people.

Both leaders also agreed to expedite work of connecting the electricity grids between the two countries, according to the statement.
