Imam Turki Royal Reserve Holds Workshop on Carbon Sequestration Assessment

Riyadh: Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Development Authority held a field workshop to assess carbon sequestration in vegetation restoration projects, as part of cooperation with the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification. The initiative reflects the national push to develop precise scientific tools for measuring environmental impact and advancing sustainability and carbon neutrality goals.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the workshop is part of a series of technical meetings and specialized sessions organized by the joint working group to develop an integrated national model for assessing carbon stocks in ecosystems. The sessions also focus on developing standardized methodologies for measuring plant biomass and soil organic carbon.

These efforts support linking vegetation restoration projects with internationally recognized carbon credit mechanisms and improving the reliability of the Kingdom’s environmental data. The workshop represented the fifth periodic meeting of the joint team. It included an advanced field training program focused on applying on-site measurement mechanisms to assess tree conditions, monitor vegetation growth, and estimate plant biomass.

The program also covered the analysis of soil organic carbon using standardized scientific methods based on direct field measurements and precise statistical sampling designs.
