Riyadh: Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University has been listed in the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai Rankings, one of the oldest and most prestigious global assessments that evaluates the performance of over 2,500 universities worldwide and publishes the top 1,000.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the university ranked 11th locally among 13 Saudi institutions included in this year's list. The ARWU ranking is based on criteria such as the number of Nobel Prize and Fields Medal laureates, the number of highly cited researchers listed by Clarivate, research published in Nature and Science journals, and the volume of research indexed in the SCIE and SSCI databases within the Web of Science network.
Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University has strengthened its standing by encouraging publication in indexed and high-impact journals, funding research projects, providing publication incentives, supporting international research collaborations, and assisting highly cited researchers. The university has also worked to improve its Per Capita Performance (PCP) score by increasing faculty productivity and developing a robust system to monitor research outputs and institutional affiliations.
