Adeisseh: Late last night, two possible illuminating flare mortar rounds struck the helipad and main gate of a United Nations position southwest of Yaroun, the National News Agency (NNA) reported. Following the incident, peacekeepers with UNIFIL immediately took shelter as a precautionary safety measure. No injuries were reported among the personnel stationed at the position.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, UNIFIL sent a stop-fire request to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), stressing the need to avoid actions that could endanger peacekeepers and their installations. UNIFIL reiterated that the safety and security of its personnel must be fully respected, reminding the IDF of its obligation to ensure the protection of peacekeepers operating in southern Lebanon. The force emphasized that any actions placing peacekeepers at risk constitute serious violations of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
Such incidents, UNIFIL added, undermine the stability that international forces and local actors are collectively working to maintain in the area.
