Riyadh: The International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), operating under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), hosted an international expert meeting in Riyadh titled 'Risk Management for Language Model Hallucinations.' The event brought together leading global specialists in artificial-intelligence (AI) technologies to discuss one of the most critical emerging challenges in the field.
According to Saudi Press Agency, participants examined the technical risks associated with the phenomenon of 'hallucinations' in large language models (LLMs) - a pioneering advancement in AI that enables machines to process and generate human language. The discussions focused on advanced methodologies to predict risks before they arise and strategies to mitigate their effects on the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated outputs in real-world applications.
The experts explored several advanced topics, including measuring reliability before improvement, estimating forecast risks without additional model training, and safeguarding real-world systems using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) mechanisms. The meeting also featured presentations of case studies and implementation frameworks aimed at strengthening security and ethical practices in the deployment of generative models.
The event is part of ICAIRE's ongoing efforts to advance research and ethical practices in AI and to develop policies that ensure the safe and responsible use of emerging technologies. The initiatives support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.
