Mecca: The road network leading to the holy sites is undergoing significant upgrades using advanced technologies, including Full Depth Reclamation (FDR). This on-site asphalt and sub-layer recycling method, part of the Roads General Authority's (RGA) innovation drive for Vision 2030's 30 million pilgrim target, creates a stable base for new asphalt.
According to Saudi Press Agency, FDR reduces costs by 40-70% compared to traditional methods, minimizes traffic disruption with same-day reopening, reuses up to 100% of materials, and shortens maintenance time by more than 40%.
RGA's adoption of such technologies aligns with the Kingdom's road sector strategy for safety and quality, aiming for a top-six global road quality ranking and reduced traffic fatalities by 2030.
