Qassim: Henna, a natural plant-based cosmetic, remains a cherished tradition in Qassim Region, where women apply it to their hair, hands, and feet in various colors and intricate patterns during special occasions, reflecting cultural continuity and aesthetic expression passed down through generations.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the enduring popularity of henna has evolved into a seasonal profession and a source of income, especially during weddings and festive celebrations. Prices vary depending on the complexity, size, and preparation method of each design.
Sulaiman Al-Salmi, a herbalist, noted that Saudi women traditionally created their own cosmetic blends using dried and ground henna leaves before the emergence of modern beauty products, producing natural red and black dyes for body art and hair coloring.
The henna tree, an evergreen plant known since ancient times, yields aromatic flowers used in various cosmetic products and traditional remedies. It is widely cultivated in India, China, Sudan, Morocco, Egypt, and several parts of the Kingdom.
