Heavy Thundershowers and Flash Floods Forecasted for Saturday in Saudi Arabia

General

Riyadh: The National Center for Meteorology has predicted severe weather conditions for several regions across Saudi Arabia this Saturday. The forecast includes heavy thundershowers that may lead to flash floods, accompanied by hail and winds that could raise dust in parts of the Jazan, Aseer, and Al-Baha regions.

According to Saudi Press Agency, moderate to heavy rain is also expected in the Makkah, Madinah, and Najran regions. There is a possibility of fog forming over the highlands in these areas. Additionally, the southern parts of the Eastern and Riyadh regions might experience light to moderate thundershowers, with gusty winds potentially reducing horizontal visibility.

The forecast for surface winds over the Red Sea indicates a shift from northwesterly to westerly in the northern and central parts, moving to southerly to southwesterly in the central part by evening. Wind speeds are anticipated to be between 15-35 km/h, reaching up to 45 km/h toward the Gulf of Aqaba. In the southern part, southerly to southwesterly winds are expected at speeds of 15-40 km/h, potentially exceeding 50 km/h with the formation of thunderclouds. Wave heights are predicted to range from half a meter to one and a half meters, rising to over two meters.

In the Arabian Gulf, surface winds are expected to be northwesterly to westerly at 12-32 km/h, with wave heights ranging from half a meter to one meter, indicating slight sea conditions.
