Riyadh: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi has welcomed the announcement by Canada, Malta, and Portugal to recognize the State of Palestine in September.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Albudaiwi praised the step, noting that it demonstrates growing international support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. This includes their right to establish an independent state on the June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law, UN resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Albudaiwi called on all countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to do so, urging them to take similar steps that would help achieve justice, end the prolonged suffering of the Palestinian people, and establish peace and stability in the region.
