The Prime Ministry’s Human Rights Unit hosted a consultation meeting with civil society organizations on the 2024 Fourth Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights on Monday in order to enhance Jordan’s human rights condition. This conference is part of a series of discussions organized by the unit in collaboration with the King Hussein Foundation (Information and Research Center), with the participation of national institutions and civil society. Director of the Unit Khalil Abdallat said that the Jordanian government has been committed to harmonizing its practices and legislation in accordance with international obligations by notifying the Secretary-General of the United Nations about the steps that the Jordanian government will take to address the Coronavirus pandemic in line with human rights standards. He stressed that the Jordanian state is firmly rooted in adopting human rights, and was built on the approach based on respect for basic rights and freedoms, noting that the Jordanian constitution is clear evidence of this approach adopted by the Jordanian leadership since its founding, and His Majesty King Abdullah’s continuous directives to the government that human rights values be the main goal and to provide protection and care for all individuals in the Kingdom. He stressed that this consultative meeting is key to push all ministries, government agencies and national institutions to carry out their humanitarian and legal duty in a manner consistent with the requirements of the next stage, stressing that Jordan has received global attention due to its active role at various levels in achieving the principles of the United Nations based on maintaining security and peace in all countries.
