Manama: The Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), during its 46th session in Bahrain, reaffirmed its commitment to the full implementation of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's vision for enhancing joint Gulf action. This commitment, initially agreed upon during the 36th session in December 2015, aims to strengthen economic unity, defense, and security systems among member states, ensuring a cohesive regional stance and stability.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the final statement from the Supreme Council's meeting in Bahrain praised the efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in supporting peace initiatives in Sudan. The council welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement to work with Middle Eastern partners to achieve lasting stability and resolve conflicts in Sudan.
The Supreme Council reiterated the indivisibility of GCC member states' security and emphasized collective defense against any aggression. The council also addressed the ongoing consultations to transition from cooperation to a union phase, reflecting a unified front and further integration among the GCC states.
The session saw the approval of several initiatives, including the gradual operation of the Customs Data Exchange Platform, the establishment of the GCC Civil Aviation Authority in the UAE, and the development of the GCC Railway Project. The council also supported environmental initiatives under the Middle East Green Initiative and efforts to enhance energy transition and climate change cooperation.
The Supreme Council commended various achievements by member states, such as the UAE's election to the United Nations Tourism Organization and Bahrain's hosting of the 2025 Asian Youth Games. The council also expressed support for Qatar's bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games and congratulated Saudi Arabia on winning the right to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
In response to regional and international issues, the council reaffirmed support for Palestinian rights and criticized Israeli actions in Gaza and the West Bank. The council also condemned Iran's occupation of UAE islands and interference in regional affairs, urging peaceful resolution through international dialogue.
The session concluded with a commitment to further enhance strategic partnerships globally, emphasizing economic cooperation and free trade agreements. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was invited to host the next GCC summit, marking the presidency of the 47th session of the Supreme Council.
