Riyadh: The session announcing the recommendations of the Ocean Rise and Resilience Coalition Summit was inaugurated on Sunday, in Nice, France. Held on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Ocean and Atmosphere Conference (UNOC3) and organized by the governments of the French Republic and Costa Rica, the session was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and several leaders, senior officials, and specialists from around the world.
According to Saudi Press Agency, during his participation in the session, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi stated that the council's participation in these specialized conferences underscores its commitment to environmental and climate issues by bolstering regional and international cooperation and adopting ambitious strategies to adapt to climate change, particularly in coastal areas which represent vital economic and social depth in the region, in line with the sustainable development visions embraced by the member states.
He pointed out that the GCC countries are making significant and continuous efforts to protect seas and oceans, particularly the Arabian Gulf. These efforts have yielded tangible results in enhancing marine environmental protection and addressing the environmental challenges facing this vital region.
Albudaiwi stated that the member states pay great attention to climate issues, sustainable development, and their solutions, especially the recommendations from representatives of local governments, experts, and specialists from various countries, benefiting from their experiences and knowledge in this field.
He emphasized the importance of joint regional and international action to address climate change and the necessity of translating climate commitments into concrete, practical steps that ensure the planet's sustainability, especially in the most vulnerable areas such as coastlines and marine communities. This contributes to adapting to future environmental challenges, protecting coastal communities, and ensuring their well-being.
