The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) today announced the results of the agricultural statistics bulletin in the Kingdom for 2023, showing 1.75 million tons of grain production harvested in an area of 323,000 hectares from a total planted area of 331,000 hectares. According to the bulletin results, wheat was the leading crop, covering 63.4% of the total area planted with grains and producing 1.314 million tons. The results also indicated that the total organic crop production amounted to 95,000 tons, while greenhouse vegetable production reached 721,000 tons. Tomatoes accounted for 36.7% of the total greenhouse area, yielding 300,000 tons. The GASTAT bulletin revealed that the total number of permanent trees exceeded 41 million, with olive trees ranking first at more than 20 million trees and producing 343,000 tons. Also, there were 37 million palm trees, of which 31 million were fruit-bearing this year. Date production reached 1.903 million tons, with the Khalas variety leading with a production o f 609,000 tons. The bulletin further highlighted that the total agricultural exports amounted to 447,000 tons, with "edible fruits and nuts, citrus peel, and other products" representing 70.3% of the total agricultural exports.
