The French Government announced Thursday that it has evacuated its nationals from Niger, which saw a coup against the elected President Mohamed Bazoum last week.
Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu stated, through his account on the “X” platform, previously, Twitter, that the French and foreign nationals who were evacuated are now safe, adding that 1,079 people were evacuated after the French army used five planes in the process of evacuating the nationals.
or its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, on the same platform, that the total number of people includes 577 French, and a large number of nationals who hold other nationalities, noting that an estimated 600 French were permanently residing in Niger at the time of the coup.
Coup plotters overthrew elected Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum a week ago, in a coup carried out by his bodyguards, which was condemned by the United States, European countries and the United Nations.
