The Kingdom’s exports of vegetables and fruits increased during the first half of 2023 by 24% compared to the same period last year.

In a statement to “Petra” on Sunday, media spokesperson of Ministry of Agriculture, Lawrence Majali, said exports amounted to 193,000 tonnes during January-June period 2023, compared to 156,000 tonnes for the same period last year.

Majali attributed this increase to facilitations provided by the ministry for agricultural exports, as well as opening new markets by Jordanian Palestinian Agricultural Products Marketing Company (JPACO) to export products.

This growth, he noted, was driven by the opportunities available to showcase “competitive” advantage of Jordanian agricultural products, in addition to product quality and demand in foreign markets.

Noting recovery of Jordan’s live sheep exports, he said their volume to Saudi Arabia during the last two weeks amounted to 130,000 heads, or 24% of the total amount of exports during 2023.
