Brussels: European Commissioner Šuica is set to engage in crucial diplomatic discussions at the High-Level Conference focused on the two-state solution for Palestine. The conference will see her meeting with several key figures, including António Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General; Faisal bin Farhan bin Al-Saud, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Florian Hahn, the State Minister at the Foreign Office of Germany.
According to European Union, Commissioner Šuica will take this opportunity to reiterate the European Union's steadfast support for the two-state solution as the only viable path to achieving a just, lasting, and sustainable peace in the region. Her address will highlight the EU's ongoing endeavors to mitigate the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Additionally, she will express strong backing for a reformed and invigorated Palestinian Authority, which is seen as the legitimate governing entity of a prospective Palestinian state.
In her contributions to the conference discussions, Commissioner Šuica will focus on the ‘day after’ strategy, emphasizing the importance of international efforts geared towards the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza. The European Commission has already made strides in this direction, having disbursed €30 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). This funding forms the second tranche of the current year's allocation under the multiannual Comprehensive Support Programme for Palestine, aimed at assisting the agency in remunerating their teachers and medical personnel.
