Brussels: The European Union has reaffirmed the importance of strengthening its partnership with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in light of escalating regional challenges. High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated during a press conference that EU foreign ministers discussed ways to enhance relations with GCC countries during their monthly meeting in Brussels.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Kallas highlighted that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has further deteriorated following recent Iranian attacks, which have directly affected trade and maritime navigation. The EU foreign ministers explored strategies to address these challenges and emphasized the need for a robust partnership with GCC nations to promote regional stability.
Kallas also mentioned discussions regarding the future of Operation Aspides, which aims to protect and ensure freedom of navigation in the region. She affirmed that the EU intends to enhance its level of engagement and cooperation within the mission, underscoring the critical nature of this initiative in safeguarding maritime routes and maintaining international trade flows.
