Riyadh: The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture's branch in Makkah Region marked the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, observed annually on July 26, by launching a comprehensive environmental campaign focused on planting and cleaning mangrove forests. The campaign, which saw collaboration between several government agencies and non-profit organizations, featured planting several mangrove seedlings along the beaches, south of Jeddah.
According to Saudi Press Agency, mangrove trees are crucial to preserving ecological balance by reducing carbon emissions and protecting shorelines from erosion. They are vital to stabilizing coastal ecosystems-an area of strategic importance for the Kingdom. These trees provide habitats for diverse marine species, enhance water quality, and help mitigate the effects of climate change.
