Death toll rises to 80 from Hawaii wildfires

At least 80 deaths have been reported from the wildfires raging across Maui Island in State of Hawaii since Tuesday, August 8.

The authorities have evacuated 1,418 people to safer areas and shelters but scores of others are still missing.

Rescuers are trying to account for the missing people while firefighters are battling against the blazes, the worst disaster in the history of the Central Pacific state.

Yesterday, Hawaii Governor Josh Green said the fires that engulfed the historic and charming town of Lahaina, the hardest-hit town, left many people without power and water supplies.

President Joseph R. Biden had declared a major disaster in the State of Hawaii and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts.
