New york: In their first high-level dialogue on digital cooperation on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the member states of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) adopted a joint statement calling for urgent global efforts to make digital transformation a catalyst for peace, prosperity, and resilience.
According to Saudi Press Agency, building on the momentum of the UN's Global Digital Compact, adopted in 2024, and guided by the DCO's four-year roadmap for digital resilience and inclusive growth (2025-2028), the member states outlined a unified vision to harness technology for sustainable development and global stability.
During the discussions, representatives of the member states acknowledged the need to bridge digital divides and enhance collaboration among countries and organizations, pledging support for expanding innovative models of digital cooperation through South-South and Triangular Cooperation.
They expressed their commitment to aligning national efforts with shared principles on digital inclusion, responsible innovation, and resilient digital infrastructure, reiterating the importance of data-driven tools such as the Digital Economy Maturity Index to monitor progress and shape policies. They also welcomed the expansion of the UN Group of Friends for Digital Cooperation, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, describing it as a vital mechanism for maintaining momentum and strengthening multilateral dialogue at the UN Headquarters.
This declaration reaffirms the DCO's role as a key entity in paving the way for a new era of multilateral digital cooperation, committed to working closely with the United Nations, international organizations, and partners to build an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient digital future.
