General

Riyadh: The King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) has launched a series of social media accounts under the title "History of Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques." This initiative focuses on documenting the history of the pilgrimage and the development of the two holy mosques from pre-Islamic times to the present. The accounts will showcase documented content on Darah's social media platforms, emphasizing the religious, cultural, and civilizational aspects of the Hajj ritual.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, specifically the Pilgrim Experience Program, which aims to enhance pilgrims' understanding of Islamic rituals. The content will cover various historical periods of Hajj, historical pilgrimage routes, and the experiences of international pilgrims, as well as the development of services related to pilgrims and Umrah performers.

Drawing on a range of historical sources, including rare manuscripts and travelers' accounts, this effort reflects Saudi Arabia's dedication to preserving the heritage of the two holy mosques. It also underscores their significance as a unifying center for Muslims around the world.
