CST Signs Deal with MWAN Seeking to Recycle 90% of E-Products by 2040

General

Riyadh: The Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) to enhance the circular economy, targeting a 90% recycling rate for electronic products by 2040. This agreement was formalized during the LEAP25 global technology conference.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the MoU was signed by CST Strategy and Digital Sector Deputy Governor Naif Sheshah, with MWAN represented by Planning and Development Vice President Dr. Mohammad Alassem. The collaboration is aimed at forming partnerships both locally and internationally to advance e-waste recycling, promoting cooperation, and exchanging knowledge and expertise in the field.

The agreement includes the preparation of studies and reports to back the circular economy agenda and the development of regulations to facilitate its implementation in Saudi Arabia. This initiative is part of CST's broader efforts to support environmental practices and reduce digital waste through initiatives like the "Unified Charging Ports," which has significantly decreased charger-related waste, and the "Recycle Your Device" program, which has repurposed over 100,000 devices, aiding schools and charities while reducing e-waste.
