Britain Set to Recognize State of Palestine Amid Worsening Conditions

London: The United Kingdom is preparing to announce its recognition of the State of Palestine today, a move that represents a major change in British foreign policy. This decision comes after the British government concluded that the situation in the Palestinian territories has deteriorated significantly.

According to Saudi Press Agency, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to announce this decision in an official statement this afternoon, after the government concluded that the situation on the ground has deteriorated significantly since Starmer called on Israel in July to commit to a long-term peace agreement and achieve a two-state solution.

The British government indicated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has worsened significantly, with ongoing military operations forcing hundreds of thousands to flee and leading to widespread hunger and violence in the affected areas. This prompted Britain to take action to preserve hopes for long-term peace in the region.

British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy said: “Recognizing the State of Palestine comes as a result of the dangerous expansion we are witnessing in the West Bank, the violence perpetrated by settlers, and the intentions and indications of construction such as the E1 project, which will destroy the possibility of achieving a two-state solution.”
