Riyadh: The Architecture and Design Commission has concluded the third edition of the Designathon challenge at Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City (Misk) in Riyadh, where 585 contestants from over 2,200 applicants across 23 countries participated during the three-day event on February 13-15.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the third edition of Designathon achieved a new national milestone by setting a Guinness World Record for the largest number of participants in a design hackathon globally. This achievement reflects the growing interest in the challenge and highlights the profound impact of this initiative.
In her speech during the closing ceremony, Architecture and Design Commission CEO Dr. Sumayah Al-Solaiman stressed that Designathon 2025 served as a platform that fosters creativity and enriches the design sector. The challenge embodies the commission’s commitment to harnessing the power of design to create a more innovative and sustainable environment. Al-Solaiman noted that the event continues to attract creative minds that contribute to shaping the future of design.
Designathon offered participants a unique opportunity over three days through eight panel discussions and workshops led by 70 design experts. These activities focused on applying the concept of “participatory design,” allowing participants to develop their ideas and strengthen their ability to create impactful, sustainable design solutions.
