Riyadh: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed the UN General Assembly's overwhelming adoption of a draft resolution endorsing the New York Declaration on the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Aboul Gheit noted that the strong vote reflects a growing international consensus on the necessity of this solution. He added that the resolution strengthens the outcomes of the July conference on the issue and increases global momentum, especially as a number of countries are expected to recognize the Palestinian state in the coming days, coinciding with the summit on September 22.
