Al-ahsa: Throughout Ramadan, the towns and villages of Al-Ahsa come alive with stories and traditions passed down for more than seven decades, forming an integral part of the community's heritage and collective memory that continues to be cherished and upheld despite the changes and challenges of modern life.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Abdulmonem Al-Mahmoud recalled his experiences of Ramadan over the past 70 years in Al-Ahsa Oasis, reflecting on a rich tapestry of simple stories and enduring memories of community unity and solidarity that continue to resonate deeply in his mind.
He remembered the last day of Shaban, when children and young people would rush to the hills and plateaus to sight the crescent moon of Ramadan, eagerly awaiting the official announcement of the holy month's start, an event marked by widespread joy and celebration throughout the community.
Al-Mahmoud spoke of the seasonal folk games he played with his peers during Ramadan in his youth, which have now disappeared. He also highlighted the strong family bonds in rural areas of Al-Ahsa, where they would gather at the grandfather's house to listen to stories, learn lessons, and assist with household and farm chores.
