AARU explores ways to strengthen cooperation with Iraqi universities

Secretary-General of Amman-based Association of Arab Universities (AARU), Amr Izzat Salama, discussed with Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, ways to enhance contact among Arab and Iraqi universities and boost aspects of joint scientific and academic integration and cooperation. According to an AARU statement on Thursday, the Iraqi minister expressed his country’s readiness to launch preparations to host the association’s 2nd conference. Al-Aboudi stressed keenness of the Iraqi academic institutions to cooperate and coordinate with AARU’s institutions, primarily its Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council, and set the necessary steps to achieve development indicators and goals, and create an environment for scientific and research partnerships among Arab universities. For his part, Salama valued Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s keenness to enable the country’s universities to establish “productive” partnerships, reach the “highest” level of response to quality requirements, pursue international accreditation, apply modern educational tracks and programs, and align university outputs with labor market. Salama also referred to Iraqi universities’ academic reputation and its role in achieving scientific research indicators and exchanging specialized programs, which would increase their competitiveness globally.
